100 Signs of Solidarity Call for Beacon based Sign Makers/Artists/Activists
Seeking artists, activists, and painters to paint signs that express the messaging of this civil rights movement as part of a city-wide exhibition in conjunction with September's Spirit of Beacon celebrations. I'm producing 100 weather resistant 19"x24" blank wooden yard signs that will be then delivered to local artists, activists, and sign painters. Once signs are painted, they will be exhibited in yards throughout the city. Limited amounts of paint is available on request. Signs should be ready to go up the second weekend of September.
We're prioritizing delivering sign blanks to BIPOC artist/sign painters, but all are encouraged to participate. There will be publicity and a website that documents the signs, artists, and conversations between members of the community and this project. Next week I will put out a call for exhibitors (yards), but you can let me know if interested. This project is being produced in collaboration with Beacon for Black Lives and with support from Rexhill Studio, Club Draw, and Beacon Mutual Aid. It will be concurrent and in partnership with Moraya Seeger DeGeare's chalk art project My Old Racist Earth.
